# Extended Backup Retention for MongoDB

Galaxy provides automatic daily backups to protect your database from data loss. You can extend the retention period beyond the standard 4 days to meet your specific business or compliance requirements.

### Default Backup Configuration (Included)

Every Galaxy database automatically includes essential backup protection with no additional setup required.
* **Automatic daily backups** at 05:00 UTC (customizable on request)
* **4-day retention period**
* **No additional cost**

### Extended Backup Retention

For applications requiring longer data retention periods (15 or 30 days), Galaxy offers backup retention that extends beyond the standard 4-day period.
* **Custom retention periods** beyond 4 days
* **Additional cost**: $0.06 per GB per additional day beyond the standard 4-day retention
* **Billing calculation**: Based on your contracted storage plan capacity, not actual database usage

### Backup Recovery

To restore from a backup, please contact our technical support team, specifying the backup date you need. We'll generate and provide a secure database dump file.
